[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung Engineering included two strategies and achievements to achieve its goal of becoming a ‘technology company’ in its eleventh sustainability management report.
On the 29th, Samsung Engineering announced the publication of the '2021 Sustainability Management Report,' which contains ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management activities and future plans. This is the eleventh report since the first sustainability management report in 2012.
The report includes strategies to strengthen project order acquisition and execution competitiveness through the FEED-EPC (from basic design to engineering, procurement, and construction) strategy and DT (digital transformation)-based technological innovation. It also introduces Samsung Engineering’s strategy to enhance overseas local business execution capabilities and achieve mutual growth with clients and executing countries.
The report also covers the company’s achievements and plans in promoting ESG-based eco-friendly businesses, which are new growth engines. Key contents include securing technologies, collaboration, and investments related to hydrogen, ammonia, and CCUS both domestically and internationally, as well as green solution businesses and environmental infrastructure operations such as eco-friendly sewage treatment plants and incineration facilities.
Additionally, the report details achievements in securing corporate management transparency and ethics through board diversity, safety management, and information protection enhancement. To improve board-centered execution fulfilling corporate social and environmental responsibilities, an ESG committee was established and a female outside director specializing in the environment was appointed. Furthermore, by appointing a Chief Safety Officer (CSO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the company strengthened safety culture establishment and information protection technology management systems, reflecting multifaceted efforts to reinforce the ESG management system.
