View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin faces controversy over leaked videos showing her at a party, an online solidarity challenge supporting her is spreading. The criticism arises solely because she is a female politician, despite the fact that Marin was enjoying nightlife during her personal time after work.
On the other hand, some argue that she should be criticized for failing to maintain the dignity expected of a national leader. Additional photos were leaked showing famous female influencers at the Prime Minister's residence lifting their tops and kissing.
On the 23rd (local time), Forbes reported that a movement supporting Prime Minister Marin is gaining momentum on social media, especially among women worldwide. They are posting videos of themselves dancing with the hashtag 'Solidaritywithsanna,' arguing that it is inappropriate to criticize Marin for private matters that occurred outside of working hours.
Female netizens expressed support for Marin with comments such as, "Prime Minister Marin did not commit any illegal acts at the party," "Unlike Marin, male politicians are not criticized even when their partying is exposed," and "The Prime Minister has the right to enjoy life joyfully."
The solidarity movement began after Marin faced embarrassment when a video of her partying with about 20 celebrities, including singers, was leaked on the 19th.

Following claims that slang referring to drugs was heard in the leaked video, Marin underwent a drug test, which came back negative. After the test, she told reporters, "In 2022, I hope decision-makers dancing, singing, and going to parties will be accepted."
Forbes pointed out the double standards applied to female politicians regarding alcohol consumption. While men drinking alcohol is accepted, women's drinking is still considered a breach of traditional norms and socially criticized.
Additionally, Forbes explained that there is a tendency to perceive women who expose more of their bodies as less competent. "According to a recent study, both women and men tend to trust and perceive as less competent women who dress more revealingly," Forbes stated, suggesting that the controversy over Marin's qualifications stems from such biases.
They added, "Photos of male leaders shirtless do not cause major controversy, yet women face these double standards daily."
Conversely, some argue that Marin's behavior warrants criticism. Some netizens expressed anger, saying, "While Finnish citizens suffer from food shortages, the Prime Minister is partying," and "The Prime Minister failed to uphold the dignity of a national leader." It was also revealed that Marin did not designate a deputy to act on her behalf on the day of the house party.
Moreover, on the 23rd, additional photos were leaked showing two famous female influencers at the Prime Minister's residence removing their tops and kissing while covering their bodies with name tags labeled 'Finland,' which has intensified the criticism.
