TIPA Provides Capability Enhancement Consulting to Companies Failing Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency (TIPA) announced on the 22nd that it will support an expert coaching program to enhance research and development (R&D) planning capabilities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that applied for industry-academia-research collaboration research projects but were not finally selected.
The target projects include the Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration R&D Project, Regional SME Joint Demand Technology Development Project, and Crisis Area SME Scale-up R&D Project, which are representative industry-academia-research collaboration R&D projects of TIPA. In particular, the Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration R&D Project had a competition rate of about 9:1 last year, indicating that SMEs face high hurdles to conduct joint research with universities or research institutes.
Accordingly, based on a demand survey, TIPA plans to provide consulting that will be practically helpful to SMEs by matching experts 1:1, supporting everything from R&D project planning to business plan writing. This is the first time this program is being offered this year, aiming to improve SMEs' planning capabilities for industry-academia-research collaboration R&D and to broaden accessibility to joint research. TIPA also plans to enhance the program's efficiency by facilitating spontaneous joint research discussions, R&D planning, and technical consultations among participants.
Among about 350 SMEs that applied for the consulting program, 43 SMEs were selected by lottery, and the consulting program will operate from the 23rd.

Lee Jae-hong, President of TIPA, said, "This will be a great help to SMEs that have had difficulty accessing industry-academia-research collaboration R&D despite their high interest," adding, "The consulting will not be limited by the format or method of the program; experts and SMEs will discuss autonomously to ensure that the consulting covers truly necessary content. We will also review improvements and plan to expand the program further in the future."
