For "Healthy School Meals" ... Ulsan Office of Education to Provide an Additional 200 KRW per Meal for School Meal Food Costs in the 2nd Semester
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Due to the recent sharp rise in prices, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has decided to provide additional funding for food expenses in the second semester to maintain the quality of school meals.
The Ulsan Office of Education plans to provide an additional 200 won per meal for food expenses to elementary, middle, high, and special schools starting in September. This additional support is expected to result in an average increase of 8.6% compared to the original food expenses.
The required budget is expected to be 1.08 billion won for elementary schools, 530 million won for middle schools, and 490 million won for high schools and special schools, totaling 2.1 billion won.
The Ulsan Office of Education stated, “Reflecting the opinions from schools that it is difficult to operate meal plans at the usual level due to soaring prices, and to alleviate parents’ concerns and worries about poor-quality meals, the Office of Education, Ulsan City, and the five districts and counties have united in their intention to provide additional support for food expenses.”
Regarding the budget sharing between the Office of Education and local governments, elementary schools will have 80% covered by the Office of Education and 10% each by Ulsan City and the districts/counties. For middle, high, and special schools, it was finally decided that the Office of Education will cover 60% and local governments 40%, as before.
