Descendants of Independence Patriots Living Abroad Wear Hanbok
Descendants of independence activists living abroad will have an opportunity to reaffirm their Korean identity through Hanbok. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs are hosting a Hanbok experience event on the afternoon of the 16th at the National Hangeul Museum. To commemorate the 77th anniversary of Liberation Day, thirty-five descendants of independence activists residing in the United States and Kazakhstan who visited Korea were invited. They will be guided to wear Hanbok and tour exhibitions such as Hunminjeongeum and other Hangeul displays. The Hanbok was carefully selected by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation. Support will be provided to properly wear Hanbok, including how to tie the goreum (ribbon). Lee Jin-sik, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "This event was prepared to express gratitude and respect for our ancestors' independence movement," adding, "We hope the descendants of independence activists will experience traditional culture and feel pride in their homeland." The two organizations previously gifted Hanbok to UN veterans who visited Korea on 'UN Forces Day (July 27)' to promote traditional culture and express their appreciation.
