Kakao Makers Achieves Cumulative Transaction Amount of 600 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kakao's impact commerce platform, 'Kakao Makers,' announced on the 1st that it has achieved a cumulative transaction amount of 600 billion KRW. This milestone comes about seven months after surpassing 500 billion KRW in cumulative transactions last December.
Launched in February 2016, Kakao Makers has grown as a commerce platform connecting manufacturers and creators with consumers by introducing various innovative products that solve everyday inconveniences through a joint order and made-to-order production method based on demand. Since its launch, it has rapidly grown each year, recording transaction amounts of 100 billion KRW in 2019, 300 billion KRW in 2020, and 500 billion KRW in 2021.
The order success rate reaches 99%. As of last month, it has provided production opportunities to more than 4,930 manufacturers and creators, with over 2.24 million users participating in made-to-order production, resulting in the sale of approximately 19.1 million products without inventory.
Kakao Makers is also carrying out various activities in line with Kakao's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. A representative project is the 'Jegabatchi' project, which opens sales channels to ensure that domestic agricultural, livestock, and fishery products and processed foods receive their proper value. This project supports the sales of discarded agricultural, livestock, and fishery products, reducing producers' inventory burdens, lowering environmental costs in the ecosystem, balancing supply and demand, and contributing to price stabilization. In particular, each order has recorded high sales due to positive reviews from purchasing customers.
Additionally, Kakao Makers offers various self-produced products through which purchases can contribute to donations, conducting user-participation donation campaigns that make it easy for anyone to donate. In March, it planned products to help Ukrainian children suffering from war and donated the proceeds to UNICEF. In April, it donated sales proceeds from products for the restoration of wildfire damage in Gangwon Province to civic organizations.
Furthermore, it is engaged in various activities contributing to social sustainability, such as improving housing for descendants of independence activists, enhancing living environments for abandoned animals, and preserving honeybee populations.
