Kim Yong-jin, Gyeonggi Province Deputy Governor for Economy, Resigns Amid 'Glass Throwing' Controversy (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Kim Yongjin, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who was involved in the ‘throwing a glass’ controversy, announced his intention to resign on the 31st.
This comes four days after allegations arose that he threw a glass at Kwak Misook, the leader of the People Power Party in the Provincial Council, during a dinner on the 27th. It has been only three days since he was appointed as Vice Governor.
In a statement, Vice Governor Kim said, "I take full responsibility for any unpleasantness, no matter how small," and added, "I hope that my resignation today will serve as an opportunity for everyone to put aside their positions and for the Provincial Council to normalize as soon as possible and return to the people of the province."
He continued, "Although brief, it was a time during which I felt many things about local politics," and stated, "It was also an opportunity to deeply realize once again why the political change that Governor Kim Dongyeon continuously advocated during the election process is even more urgently needed."

He added, "I believe the ultimate purpose of politics is to solve the issues related to the people's livelihood," and concluded, "Although the situation is difficult, I believe that the 8th term of the Gyeonggi Province government will surely succeed, and I will continue to support it."
