GTX Opening Accelerated... 'GTX Promotion Team' Activated
On the morning of May 2, when Yoon Suk-yeol was the president-elect, he received an explanation at the GTX-A tunnel section construction site in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 31st that it will launch the 'GTX Promotion Team,' consisting of 15 dedicated personnel, to accelerate the GTX project, and will begin full-scale operations from the first week of August.
This is a follow-up measure to President Yoon Seok-yeol's directive during the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's briefing on the 18th, instructing to "promptly advance the GTX project to alleviate transportation inconveniences in the metropolitan area." With the expansion of dedicated personnel, the GTX project is expected to gain further momentum.
The Promotion Team will be directly led by the Director General of the Railway Bureau, who will serve as the head of the team overseeing the entire GTX project. It will be composed of the 'Project Team,' which manages the existing GTX A, B, and C projects, and the 'Planning Team,' newly established under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to handle GTX extensions and new lines.
The 'GTX Project Team' plans to steadily advance the GTX A, B, and C projects, which are already on track, with a particular focus on expediting the opening schedule of Line A, which is scheduled for initial completion in 2024.
Currently, construction is underway on Line A (Unjeong to Dongtan), and efforts are being made to explore various measures with project operators and experts to bring forward the originally planned opening date of June 2024 as much as possible.
Additionally, Lines B and C will also accelerate progress by promptly selecting private operators, conducting negotiations, and carrying out detailed designs. Line C (Deokjeong to Suwon) is planned to break ground next year and open in 2028, while Line B (Songdo to Maseok) is scheduled to start construction in 2024 and open in 2030, with thorough project management to ensure these timelines.
The 'GTX Planning Team' will be responsible for expanding the GTX network, including extensions of Lines A, B, and C, and the establishment of new Lines D, E, and F. The team will maintain smooth communication with the 'Project Team' within the Promotion Team to minimize past trial-and-error and shorten schedules.
With the launch of the new government, the 'GTX Expansion Planning Study' has already commenced, reviewing optimal routes that can secure project feasibility, and plans to prepare early implementation measures such as promoting private proposal projects.
