Shinwolseong Unit 2 Passes Regular Inspection... Nuclear Safety and Security Commission Approves Restart
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) announced on the 29th that it has approved the criticality (restart) of Shin-Wolsong Unit 2. Shin-Wolsong Unit 2 recently completed its regular inspection.
The NSSC stated, "As a result of inspecting 81 items that must be performed before criticality during this regular inspection, it was confirmed that the reactor can safely achieve criticality going forward."
It added, "The integrity of the heat transfer buffer plates and non-destructive testing of the steam generator heat transfer tubes were properly conducted," and "foreign material inspections and removal operations were carried out, removing a total of 22 foreign objects."
Furthermore, the implementation status of post-Fukushima countermeasures and the reflection of accident and failure cases from the past three years were reviewed and confirmed to be appropriate.
