Dongjak-gu Mayor Park Il-ha 'One Month Since the Launch of the 8th Elected Term'... A New Breeze Blows
[Seoul District News] Jikso Civil Service Office Boldly Abolished, All Civil Petitioners Directly Meet District Mayor to Greatly Improve Communication Quality... Park Dongjak District Mayor States, "We Will Change the Map of Dongjak-gu in All Areas Including Urban, Welfare, Living, History, and Culture"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Since the inauguration of Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, on the 1st of the month, Dongjak-gu has been undergoing new changes.
On his first day in office, Mayor Park visited the Dorimcheon area to first check on residents' safety from flooding caused by the previous day's heavy rain, then began his term with an action plan for each schedule and a vision declaration ceremony outlining Dongjak's future in four years.
During his first month in office, Mayor Park maintained a busy schedule by personally visiting all sites, including listening to residents' complaints, visiting major local institutions, touring resident general meetings by neighborhood, participating in COVID-19 quarantine activities, and joining sharing events for vulnerable elderly citizens.
Above all, he made efforts to immediately visit sites upon hearing of residents' inconveniences to resolve issues and prevent safety accidents in advance. He arranged for support braces to be installed on a tilted utility pole near the Heukseok-dong collection site and quickly carried out replacement work. He also organized the removal of street obstructions around the congested Exit 3 of Sindaebang Station and in front of Noryangjin Station, earning great approval from residents.
The pledges Mayor Park announced to be completed within 30 days showed visible results, including ▲extending the grace period for parking violations during lunchtime ▲reducing property tax for single-homeowners to 2020 levels ▲providing low-interest loans to small business owners ▲installing free Wi-Fi in all local senior centers ▲replacing and installing LED security lights ▲transplanting and changing tree species that interfere with commercial districts.
There was also a groundbreaking change in handling complaints. The Jikso Civil Complaints Office, which had previously been dedicated to mayoral complaints but actually blocked face-to-face meetings with the mayor, was boldly abolished. Now, the mayor personally meets all complainants, greatly improving the quality of communication. Additionally, the district newsletter 'Dongjak Madang,' a communication channel with residents, increased pages related to district news and added a new section highlighting local pride.
Furthermore, projects reflecting residents' wishes are actively underway, including the removal of unauthorized long-term abandoned street stalls that spoil the urban landscape, ▲re-paving damaged road sections ▲reorganizing construction site barriers with consideration for city aesthetics ▲supporting pregnancy and childbirth-related expenses ▲establishing a left-turn U-turn lane at the Shinsangdo Elementary School intersection ▲reorganizing waste disposal facilities such as recycling stations ▲and improving the environment in odor-prone areas.
Moreover, the district plans to focus on leading the change and development of Dongjak-gu, which has been stagnant for 12 years, through Dongjak-gu-style redevelopment and reconstruction, the Noryangjin private station, road network expansion, and improvement of unreasonable traffic systems.
