'Hansan' Opens with 380,000 Viewers on First Day... Dominates as No.1 Start
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The movie "Hansan: Rising Dragon," depicting Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Battle of Hansan, topped the box office on its opening day.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 28th, "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (directed by Kim Han-min), which was released on the 27th, attracted 386,185 viewers and claimed the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share reached 59.8%.
The interest was anticipated. "Hansan: Rising Dragon" had held the number one position in overall advance ticket sales for six days prior to its release. Directed by Kim Han-min, who helmed "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" (2014) which drew 17.61 million viewers, this is the second film planned as part of the Yi Sun-sin trilogy.
The film portrays the Battle of Hansan, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the Joseon navy, united by desperate strategy and courage, defend Joseon against the advancing Japanese forces five years before the Battle of Myeongnyang. The naval battle unfolds vividly over 51 minutes, delivering cinematic excitement.
On the same day, "Minions 2" ranked second with 91,439 viewers, and "Top Gun: Maverick" took third place with around 60,000 viewers.
