On the 28th, Space Hub announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding for research cooperation on reusable unmanned spacecraft with a consortium of 13 universities, including Seoul National University. Among domestic space companies, Hanwha is the first to enter the development of reusable unmanned spacecraft technology.
A reusable unmanned spacecraft refers to a spacecraft that is launched into space aboard a space launch vehicle and can fly for extended periods in space using its own propulsion, performing various missions such as observation, research, and defense. After completing its mission and returning to Earth, it can re-enter space multiple times via the launch vehicle.
Because it is reusable, it can reduce launch costs and be deployed more frequently for missions, leading countries like the United States and China to competitively develop this technology.
Recently, Space Hub held discussions with Seoul National University on detailed matters for developing foundational technologies for reusable unmanned spacecraft, including ▲ cooperation in participating in research labs and detailed projects ▲ maximizing collaboration of technical and business capabilities held by both parties.
Additionally, Hanwha Space Hub will participate in the reusable unmanned spacecraft advanced technology specialized research center project, led by the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute and involving a consortium of 11 universities including Seoul National University, with plans to open the research center in September.
