Lotte Chilsung Beverage Employee Embezzles 340 Million Won... Fired for Misappropriation
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] It was recently confirmed that an employee of Lotte Chilsung Beverage was caught embezzling several hundred million won and was dismissed.
According to Lotte Chilsung on the 25th, employee A from the Global Sales Team embezzled 340 million won of company funds over several years until the end of last year by creating false vouchers. Lotte Chilsung, which established an internal accounting team in 2019, detected this fact through an internal audit conducted in December last year.
During the company investigation, A admitted all facts related to his corrupt activities and was placed on standby in February before being dismissed in March. Lotte Chilsung stated that since the embezzlement and breach of trust did not exceed 2.5% of its equity capital, it was not subject to mandatory disclosure and therefore no separate announcement was made.
A Lotte Chilsung official explained, "The embezzled amount was not large, and full repayment has been completed, so the case was settled without a separate criminal complaint," adding, "To prevent recurrence, we plan to strengthen internal control systems such as enhancing electronic evidence system management, reorganizing internal accounting management systems, reinforcing anti-corruption compliance frameworks, establishing dedicated teams, pledging ethical codes, and intensifying employee training."
