Located in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, the National Youth Future Environment Center is situated on a 106,222㎡ site with a three-story building covering a total floor area of 8,572㎡. It includes an operation center, dormitory, family building, and Forest Adventure, accommodating up to 162 people. Construction began in April 2019, was completed in July last year, and after a preparation period, it opened on this day.
The Future Environment Center is operated by the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency under the theme "Our Future and the Environment." It plans to run experiential programs on universal human topics such as terrestrial ecosystem conservation, climate change response, healthy and rational production and consumption, poverty, disease, and refugees.
Youth will reflect on ecosystem services and biodiversity to understand the value and importance of ecosystems. Through education on reducing greenhouse gases causing climate change and the use of alternative energy, they can experience activities that can be practiced in daily life, such as resource circulation and reducing household waste.
Since establishing the National Pyeongchang Youth Training Center in 1998, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has operated five facilities nationwide that combine regional characteristics and youth activities, including space, marine, and agricultural life themes. The Youth Activity Promotion Agency is also promoting the development of various content, such as building metaverses reflecting the characteristics of each facility.
