Air Force 1st Combat Base Conducts Korea-US Joint Damage Recovery Training in Engineering Field
Improvement of Operational Capability Display at Joint Operations Base
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Republic of Korea Air Force 1st Fighter Wing announced that from the 18th to the 20th, it conducted a joint ROK-US engineer field damage recovery training to enhance wartime operational capabilities at the joint operation base.
The training involved about 60 ROK and US soldiers and 24 pieces of equipment across 9 types, including loaders.
Before the training, the ROK-US joint personnel shared damage recovery equipment and manuals, confirming key points and precautions in the training plan.
Subsequently, the joint personnel assumed a scenario where craters occurred on the runway, practiced the operation procedures of the joint damage recovery control center, and conducted damage recovery training targeting four small craters.
The joint personnel used loaders to remove debris, then cut and excavated the pavement surface.
They then organized the recovery surface by performing semi-permanent restoration using ultra-rapid concrete. Notably, this training focused on technology sharing and identifying areas for improvement through joint exercises with the US military.
Simultaneously, to establish a joint damage recovery system, they introduced and shared operational know-how of each other's WRM (War Reserve Material) equipment. Both ROK and US sides operated each other's equipment to hone related skills.
The training concluded with a tactical discussion to establish measures for enhancing joint mission performance capabilities.
