View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that it plans to accelerate the spread of HDR10+ content by partnering with domestic online video service (OTT) companies such as TVING and Watcha.
HDR10+ is a video standard technology led by Samsung Electronics. It is a technology that optimizes brightness and contrast for each scene considering the performance of displays on TVs, mobiles, and other devices.
Since 2019, Samsung Electronics has been distributing HDR10+ content conversion software free of charge. Several video content companies such as CJ OliveNetworks, Watcha, U5K Imageworks, and Candit Studio utilize this software.
In the case of TVING, HDR10+ has been applied since last year. It plans to provide a total of about 40 HDR10+ contents, including recently aired TVING original contents such as 'Seoul Check-in', 'Dwaeji-ui Wang (King of Pigs)', 'Sulkkun Doshi Yeoja-deul (Workaholic City Women)', and 'Goei (Strange)'.
Watcha has been servicing HDR10+ content since 2020. HDR10+ has been applied to about 30 movies and TV programs, including Watcha original series like 'Hanwha Eagles: Clubhouse'.
The UHD Blu-ray title of the movie 'Parasite' presented by CJ E&M was released in January last year after HDR10+ remastering work by Plain Archive and Candit Studio.
Samsung Electronics established a company called 'HDR10+ Technology LLC' in 2018 and operates HDR10+ certification and logo programs as well as provides technical support.
As of this month, 139 member companies including TV and display manufacturers, system-on-chip (SoC) companies, and content providers have released more than 5,000 certified models.
