Will Regional Book Distribution and Logistics Systems Improve?
Ministry of Culture Meeting with Local Bookstore Industry... Pilot Project for 'Establishing Regional Hub Logistics System'
On the 20th at 10 a.m., the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a meeting with the local bookstore industry at the National Library of Korea in Seoul. The focus will be on improving the distribution and logistics systems of books in local areas, as well as addressing management difficulties faced by local bookstores. A ministry official explained, "At the publishing industry meeting held on the 12th to prepare the 'Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Plan,' opinions were raised about the need to improve the distribution structure and supply system of books in local areas, which led to the arrangement of this follow-up meeting." The local bookstore industry argues that to improve management, regional hub logistics networks and timely supply systems must be established. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will reflect these matters in the '5th Promotion Plan.' Additionally, in consultation with financial authorities, a pilot project called 'Establishment of Regional Hub Logistics System (tentative name)' will be launched. Detailed implementation plans will be discussed together with major bookstore organizations such as the Korea Federation of Bookstores Cooperatives, the Korea Bookstore Association, and the Neighborhood Bookstore Network.
