Damyang-gun Dementia Safe Village, Community Harmony Program Operation
‘Together Community’ Dementia-Friendly Community Creation for About 100 Residents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byeongno) announced on the 18th that from the 5th to the 12th, it conducted the ‘Together Harmony Program’ at the village senior centers for about 100 residents of the dementia-safe village.
This program was prepared to create a dementia-friendly community village that can realize ‘hyangchon welfare’ by having dementia-safe village residents, exhausted from COVID-19 and heatwaves, come together to empathize with the difficulties faced by dementia patients and their families, and to improve negative perceptions about dementia.
Scheduled for a total of four sessions, the first session involved making bamboo stands, which help stimulate cognition through hand-eye coordination.
Based on residents’ feedback, various additional programs will be conducted.
The Damyang-gun Dementia Safety Center has designated Seokhyeon Village in Geumseong-myeon in 2019, Deokchon Village in Goseo-myeon in 2020, Sadong Village in Changpyeong-myeon in 2021, and Baekdong Jugong Apartment Complex 1 in 2022 as dementia-safe villages, promoting various projects such as early dementia screening, dementia prevention classes, and dementia patient shelters.
