Jeong, who was actively appearing on broadcasts, suddenly passed away on July 16, 2019. About 50 people attended the memorial service, including Jeong’s family, National Assembly member Lee Tae-gyu, Seoul Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Song Ju-beom, Presidential Office Political Secretary 2 Gyeong Yun-ho, former National Assembly members Lee I-jae and Jeong Tae-geun, former Blue House Chief of Economic Staff Cho Won-dong, former 2nd Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Shin Jae-min, and former People Power Party (formerly Liberty Korea Party) Chungbuk Provincial Party Chairman Song Tae-young, to pay tribute to the deceased.
Jeong Tae-geun, former lawmaker who hosted the memorial service, said, "The late was a politician who emphasized politics centered on people’s livelihood and life politics rather than power," adding, "Looking back at our reality on the 3rd anniversary, the void left by the late feels even greater." Cho Won-dong, former chief who gave a greeting on behalf of friends, said, "The late, who was very warm-hearted, was a politician loved by all of us. I pray that he rests peacefully in heaven."
