Due to Delivery Fee Increase... CU Alcohol and Side Dish Sales Both Rose

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Recently, as the burden of delivery fees has increased, it has been reported that more customers are purchasing simple snacks and alcoholic beverages at convenience stores near their homes.
According to CU on the 18th, refrigerated snack sales this month have grown by 42.9% compared to the same period last year. During the tropical night phenomenon last weekend (8th to 10th), late-night hours (8 PM to 12 AM) sales surged by as much as 77.9%.
The most popular product among refrigerated snacks was the Giant Anju series. CU operates various Giant Anju series products emphasizing generous portions enough for two adults, such as Dakgangjeong (9,900 won), Suyuk Bossam (9,900 won), and Golbaengi Bibim-myeon (8,900 won).
Among the Giant Anju series, the most popular Giant Dakgangjeong saw sales this month increase by 44.2% compared to the same period last year. The Giant Suyuk Bossam, released this month, also saw sales grow by 33.1% compared to its first week of release.
Along with snacks, alcoholic beverage sales are also rising. CU’s beer sales this month increased by 22.1% compared to the same period last year, while soju and Makgeolli sales rose by 10.1% and 14.1%, respectively.
In particular, the number of uses of the pickup service ‘PyeonPICK (PICK),’ which saves delivery fees of around 3,000 to 4,000 won, jumped 5.8 times compared to the same period last year. The PyeonPICK service allows customers to pre-order products through CU’s membership application ‘Pocket CU’ and pick up the prepared products at the store at their desired time without any fees.
