Wang Jianan of China, Asia's First Male Long Jump Champion
Wang Jianan (26) from China became the first Asian to win the men's long jump at the World Athletics Championships.
On the 17th (Korean time), Wang Jianan won the men's long jump final at the 2022 World Athletics Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA, with a jump of 8.36 meters.
Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Miltiadis Tentoglou (24, Greece) took second place with 8.32 meters, and Simon Ehammer (20, Switzerland) finished third with 8.16 meters.
Wang Jianan was only in fifth place with his best mark of 8.03 meters through the first five attempts, but made a dramatic comeback by jumping 8.36 meters on his final sixth attempt.
Previously, Wang Jianan became the first Asian male high jumper to medal by finishing third with 8.18 meters at the 2015 Beijing World Championships.
