[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seokgang Seo) held the ‘Love Samgyetang Sharing Day’ at the Recycling Center on the 7th, ahead of Chobok, to help residents in difficult circumstances stay healthy during the summer.
‘Love Samgyetang Sharing Day’ is an annual event where Songpa-gu and the Songpa-gu Saemaeul Women’s Association invite elderly residents living alone in the district and serve them samgyetang, a summer health food, as a celebration to welcome the hot season.
However, since 2020 due to COVID-19, they have separately prepared and delivered ‘Samgyetang Meal Kits’ that can be cooked immediately.
On the 7th, about 50 people including Mayor Seokgang Seo, members of the Saemaeul Women’s Association, and welfare planners from the community service centers gathered to prepare 1,000 servings of samgyetang meal kits.
The meal kits prepared that day were delivered directly to 500 households, including low-income elderly living alone and single-parent families in the area, while also conducting care activities to check on the vulnerable groups during the heat.
In addition, the district plans to continue supporting health-vulnerable groups with samgyetang and health packages ahead of Chobok, in cooperation with resident autonomy committees and volunteer camps in each neighborhood.
Mayor Seokgang Seo of Songpa-gu said, “The priority of administration’s attention is to care for the socially vulnerable,” adding, “We will strive for meticulous care so that elderly living alone and low-income families can spend the summer healthily amid the early heat and rainy season.”
