Seoul signed a tenancy agreement with CABEI in April and has been supporting the establishment of the Korea office. CABEI is a multilateral regional development bank established in 1960 by five Central American countries to support "public and private investment" for balanced regional development and economic integration. Currently, 15 member countries are active, and Korea has contributed a total of 630 million dollars, holding the 7th largest voting share overall.
Attending the Korea office completion ceremony held that day were Dante Mossi, CABEI President; Bang Ki-sun, 1st Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance; Kim Ui-seung, Acting Deputy Mayor for Administration of Seoul; and Bae Hyun-sook, Director of New Growth Industry Planning at Seoul City.
Seoul plans to discover cooperative projects to gain a first-mover advantage in the Central American region in fields such as energy and social infrastructure development after the official commencement of CABEI Korea office operations. The CABEI Korea office will serve as a gateway supporting Korean companies' entry into the Central American market and act as a facilitator for economic and investment cooperation linking government ministries, private companies, and other multilateral development banks.
The Seoul International Financial Office, where CABEI has established its base, is a space created and operated by Seoul City on the 16th floor of the Seoul International Financial Center (One IFC) to attract excellent financial institutions and foster Yeouido as an international financial hub. Six foreign financial institutions, including CABEI, are currently housed in the Seoul International Financial Office.
