If You Take This Bus, You Get Off Where Birds Live... Ulsan's "Migratory Bird Travel Bus" Debuts
Korea Zinc Donates Remodeled 16-Seat Mid-Size EV Bus to Ulsan City
Equipped with Cameras, Telescopes, and Video Equipment for Migratory Bird Watching and Ecological Exploration Starting in August
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] If you take this bus, it will take you to where the birds live. A 'bird-only' bus has appeared, with stops located at habitats along migratory bird routes.
On the 11th at 2 p.m., Ulsan City held the 'Ulsan Migratory Bird Travel Bus Donation Ceremony' at the City Hall Sunlight Square, attended by about 30 people including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Baek Soon-heum, CEO of Korea Zinc, and representatives of private organizations.
The event was attended by bird-related organizations such as the Samho Migratory Bird Village Council and the Ulsan Ecotourism Promotion Group, who have been monitoring Ulsan's migratory birds for years and leading efforts to raise awareness and protect migratory bird habitats.
Baek Soon-heum, CEO of Korea Zinc, said, "Since Ulsan was the first on the East Coast to be registered on the international migratory bird route, I hope the Ulsan Migratory Bird Travel Bus will play a small role in helping citizens get closer to the birds," adding, "I hope it will be an enjoyable birdwatching trip."
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom expressed gratitude, saying, "To revitalize Ulsan's migratory bird exploration program, a high-priced electric bus was donated, and careful consideration is evident in the wrapping and interior design tailored to the eye level of children using the vehicle."
The Ulsan Migratory Bird Travel Bus, a medium-sized electric minibus, adjusted the existing 23-seat configuration to 16 seats to enhance travel convenience, and was reborn as a birdwatching vehicle suited to children's eye level by featuring crow and egret characters on the exterior.
The interior is equipped with birdwatching cameras, binoculars, laptops, and video equipment, and regional migratory bird illustrations are displayed on the indoor ceiling and window blinds to create a migratory bird bus atmosphere.
The number of participants per birdwatching activity is 12, led by two natural environment interpreters.
Starting in August, Ulsan City plans to operate a migratory bird exploration program that visits places where many migratory birds come, such as Taehwa River, Dongcheon, and Namchangcheon, using the Ulsan Migratory Bird Travel Bus, as well as an Ulsan DMZ ecological exploration that tours areas restricted to citizens, such as water source protection zones and wetland protection areas.
