The district established the training center to support various activities aimed at strengthening merchants' capabilities and fostering community cohesion.
The Meongok Market Merchant Training Center is located at 368 Dapsimni-ro, 3rd floor (Junggok-dong), at the entrance of Meongok Market, with an area of 90.48㎡.
The training center will be used for merchant education related to revitalizing the commercial area, holding meetings, and operating resident-friendly programs.
The opening ceremony was held with about 30 attendees, including Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, city council members, district council members, and market merchants. The event proceeded with congratulatory speeches from guests, a prize draw for the market revitalization event, and commemorative photo sessions.
The prize draw for the market revitalization event was conducted for customers who participated in the prize application during the event period (June 27 to July 8). The prizes drawn will be delivered to the winners by the merchants' association.
Meanwhile, Meongok Market, established in 1971, had been an unregistered market for over 50 years because it did not meet the traditional market recognition criteria (insufficient number of stores) under the Traditional Market Act. However, it was designated as an alley shopping district in January 2021.
To revitalize Meongok Market, the district supported the installation of fire alarm facilities, maintenance of old wiring, and market management packages through public contests by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Seoul City. It also promoted modernization efforts such as installing a CCTV system for monitoring, symbolic sculptures, and the Our Neighborhood Artterior support project.
