Yeosu City Operates 'Public-Private Collaboration Organization' for Sustainable Marine Tourism and Resort City
On the 7th, a working-level meeting held with participation from 16 tourism-related organizations, institutions, and private facilities
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that on the 7th, it held the 1st working-level meeting of the ‘Public-Private Collaborative Organization’ for sustainable tourism at the city hall conference room.
On this day, six institutions and organizations in the tourism sector and ten working-level staff from tourism and accommodation facilities attended the meeting.
The attendees shared local tourism trends and big data analysis materials and continued discussions on major projects for the second half of the year.
In particular, at this meeting, various opinions for sustainable tourism were presented, including solutions to traffic congestion caused by the recent surge in tourists and proposals to expand incentives for group tourists.
A city official said, “The public and private sectors have come together to take a meaningful first step toward sustainable tourism in Yeosu,” adding, “As qualitative growth in tourism has become important after COVID-19, we will do our best to create ‘Namhaean Hub City Mihang Yeosu’ through continuous communication and collaboration.”
The ‘Public-Private Collaborative Organization’ was formed to establish an organic collaboration system between the public and private sectors to develop competitive tourism content and create sustainable tourism where daily life and tourism coexist.
Going forward, regular monthly meetings will be held to share various opinions for the revitalization of Yeosu tourism.
Meanwhile, as of the end of May this year, the number of tourists visiting Yeosu City totaled 4.07 million, an increase of about 20%, or 680,000 people, compared to last year.
In preparation for the continuous increase in tourists, the city has newly assigned 40 temporary workers and has taken measures to improve quarantine and accommodation readiness at tourist sites.
