100% Tuition Coverage and Employment Support... Seoul City Launches Talent Recruitment for Robot and Drone Industries
Operation of On-site Talent Development Academy for Robots (100 people) and Drones (100 people)... Applications in July, Classes Start in August
Curriculum Created with Companies Including CEOs and Active Developers Covering Design, Software Development, and Employment/Startup Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is launching initiatives to nurture talent in the robotics and drone sectors, which are considered new growth engines for emerging industries.
On the 3rd, Seoul announced that it will begin operating training programs for 100 robotics and 100 drone talents starting in the second half of this year. The training costs, valued at approximately 5 to 6 million KRW per person, will be fully covered by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. After completing the training, various networking programs with industry professionals in robotics and drones will be provided to support employment and entrepreneurship.
First, the ‘Seoul Robot Academy’ will be held at Gaepo Digital Innovation Park. Based on corporate field demand surveys, it will offer three specialized courses: RPA Developer, Mobile Robot-based Service SI, and Collaborative Robot SI Coordinator. All courses will follow a step-by-step learning process and conclude with education linked to internships at robotics companies.
The training will be conducted by experts from academia, industry, and research in robotics, company CEOs, and active developers serving as instructors and mentors. The program consists of up to 12 weeks and 200 hours. Additionally, to enhance field adaptability when deployed in actual work, the training will utilize industrial robotic equipment and materials such as indoor/outdoor autonomous mobile robots and multi-joint robots, providing an optimized practical training environment.
The ‘Seoul Robot Academy’ is open to anyone interested in robotics, including university students, job seekers, and prospective entrepreneurs who possess basic IT literacy. Applications for the first course, RPA Developer training, can be submitted through the website until the 18th.
The newly launched ‘Seoul Drone Academy’ will select about 100 trainees to cultivate practical drone professionals through three educational courses: drone design and manufacturing, software development, and employment/entrepreneurship practical projects. Each cohort will consist of 25 trainees, with a total of four cohorts and 100 trainees trained in the second half of this year.
The ‘Seoul Drone Academy’ will run for 9 weeks, totaling 200 hours of training. While most previous drone education focused on operation such as piloting, this program consists of three practical courses: ▲ drone airframe design and manufacturing ▲ integrated hardware and software education including autonomous navigation software development ▲ and employment/entrepreneurship practical projects.

In particular, the curriculum includes a 40-hour ‘practical project’ segment, where trainees receive mentoring from current industry professionals to facilitate actual employment connections and transfer entrepreneurship know-how, thereby enhancing the linkage to jobs and startups. Jung Young-jun, Director of Seoul’s Economic Policy Division, stated, “We will establish a talent development system for the Seoul-type innovative industries with high growth potential in robotics and drones, supporting the creation of competitive ‘talent’ in the field to become the growth engine of new industries.”
