With recent maritime safety issues emerging and the peak vacation season soon beginning, Wando-gun has decided to prepare and implement measures to strengthen the safety network of coastal facilities.
First, a full survey and risk assessment will be conducted on coastal facilities such as piers, breakwaters, and wharves where accidents are likely to occur, and vulnerable facilities will be extensively refurbished.
The risk assessment of coastal facilities will be divided into three stages, and specific evaluation criteria will be prepared in the second half of the year.
The fishing port development project, which has been underway since this year, will implement a mandatory safety facility installation system to enhance safety.
Safety facilities planned for installation include CCTV, streetlights, flashing lights, bollards, safety railings, and life-saving boxes.
In addition, various funding sources will be secured to expand safety facilities, and plans will be made to strengthen the safety network by organizing the management entities of coastal facilities and cooperating with Jeollanam-do, the Coast Guard, fire stations, and others.
Shin Woo-cheol, governor of Wando-gun, emphasized, “Coastal facilities are essential safety facilities for fishermen and tourists,” and stated, “There is nothing more important than protecting the safety and lives of residents, so we will do our best to strengthen the safety network.”
