With Outdoor Mask Mandate Lifted... Gmarket and Auction See Beauty Products 'Flying Off the Shelves'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Since the outdoor mask mandate was lifted recently, sales of beauty products have surged sharply.
According to Gmarket and Auction on the 29th, demand for beauty products such as color cosmetics and base makeup significantly increased from the 2nd of last month to the 28th of this month. Highlighters and shading products rose by 144% and 34% respectively, while lip balms/lip care and lipsticks sold 37% and 46% more. Cushion compacts (34%), foundation (27%), concealers (78%), BB creams/tone-up creams (46%), and powders/twin cakes (28%) also showed an overall upward trend.
Sales of men's skin care and lotions increased by 67% and 23% respectively. Men's makeup rose by 23%, and men's cleansing products by 35%. Razors increased by 63%, razor blades by 52%, and shaving creams and similar products surged by 476%. Tweezers, which are good for trimming fine facial hair, increased by 106%, and nose hair scissors by 87%.

A Gmarket official said, “With the outdoor mask mandate lifted, demand for so-called mask-off related products such as beauty products, shaving supplies, and oral care products has generally increased,” adding, “As outdoor activities are expected to increase ahead of the vacation season, this trend is likely to continue for some time.”
