Hyundai Heavy, Defense University and Ulsan University Collaborate on Industry-Academia Training for Foreign Military Officers

Development of Specialized Training Programs for Warships... Strengthening Security Cooperation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Hyundai Heavy Industries is operating an industry-academia-research training program in collaboration with domestic universities to enhance the overseas competitiveness of the defense industry.
On the 28th, Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 'Foreign Military Officer Industry-Academia-Research Training Program Development' with the Korea National Defense University and Ulsan University at its headquarters in Ulsan, attended by President Lee Sang-gyun of Hyundai Heavy Industries, President Jeong Hae-il of Korea National Defense University, and President Oh Yeon-cheon of Ulsan University.
They agreed to mutually cooperate to further develop the industry-academia-research training currently operated in the security course at the Korea National Defense University and to promote exchange and cooperation in the fields of national defense security and military science technology.
First, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Ulsan University will develop field-centered education and experience programs targeting high-ranking officers from defense trade countries in Asia, Africa, and other regions who receive commissioned education at the Korea National Defense University.
Hyundai Heavy Industries will introduce Korea's excellent warship design technology and construction capabilities, while Ulsan University will conduct lectures on advanced technologies such as future mobility on land and sea.
Furthermore, Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to collaborate with the Korea National Defense University, Ulsan University, and others by 2024 to develop specialized warship education courses for overseas officers and to strengthen technological and security cooperation with key countries in the defense industry through regular academic exchange meetings.
Lee Sang-gyun, President of Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "This will serve as an opportunity to activate defense exports by informing overseas military officials of world-class warship design and construction technology and to further strengthen security and economic cooperation between countries."
