LG Uplus Develops 'AI-Based Emotional Content Search Technology'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it will develop an 'AI-based emotional content search technology' that recommends content according to customers' emotions.
LG Uplus has signed a collaboration agreement with AI specialist company Upstage for technology development. Based on Upstage's AI algorithms, the two companies will analyze the content and reviews provided by LG Uplus's IPTV service U+tv to develop a service that classifies, searches, and recommends content using various customer emotions as keywords.
LG Uplus plans to utilize Upstage's AI deep learning algorithms to analyze U+tv data and classify content using various emotions felt by customers as keywords. While content was previously classified by genres such as horror or romance, this technology will include emotions to further subdivide content into categories like 'spine-chilling thriller movies' or 'heartwarming romance movies.' Through this, customers will be able to search for or receive recommendations for content that matches their emotions more easily.
Although emotion-based content classification technology has been partially introduced in other media services, it has often been manually classified by operators. This has limited classification based on emotions to genres or themes and made it difficult to expand to all content.
LG Uplus and Upstage plan to develop technology that automatically analyzes reviews attached to content using AI and classifies them into more detailed and diverse expressions according to the intensity of the same type of emotion, applying this to all content provided by U+tv. This will allow U+tv customers to watch customized content that suits their subtle emotions, beyond simply viewing content lists classified by emotion.

The two companies will focus on developing technologies such as building AI model training data, modeling emotional tag extraction, and a search engine based on similar emotions to introduce AI-based content search functions to U+tv. After technology development, they will verify the quality of data analyzed by AI through demonstrations and apply emotion-based search and recommendation services to U+tv following these validations.
