[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] Dong-Eui University was recently selected by the Korean Intellectual Property Office for the ‘New Industry Sector Intellectual Property Convergence Talent Development Project,’ which aims to cultivate future talents equipped with technical expertise and intellectual property capabilities.

This project, launched for the first time this year, selected 50 departments nationwide from science and engineering university students in new industry fields, who are prospective research and development (R&D) personnel, to foster essential intellectual property competencies.

Dong-Eui University’s Game Engineering major and Dental Hygiene department are participating in the project.

With the project selection, the Game Engineering major and Dental Hygiene department will receive 320 million KRW per department, totaling 640 million KRW, over three years from July 2023 to February 2025.

The departments will use the funding to conduct advanced IP education, provide academic incentives, and offer IP capability training for professors.

Participating departments will establish IP-related major courses and support industry-academia cooperation projects such as patent application and registration, as well as technology transfer.

Lee Hyunseop, Director of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation’s Startup Education Center, said, “In today’s era, in addition to specialized knowledge in one’s major, the ability to create and utilize intellectual property is crucial. Through this project, we will promote the importance of the knowledge industry and open specialized education programs reflecting the characteristics of new industry sectors to actively support students’ advancement into related fields.”
