The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 20th that they have applied for an investigative interview at Seoul Detention Center on the 23rd for Kim Seong-jin, CEO of i-CHRIST. Kim is currently serving a 9-year prison sentence at Seoul Detention Center after the Supreme Court confirmed his conviction in 2018 for embezzling investment funds worth hundreds of billions of won.
The police have applied several times for investigative interviews with Kim, but it is known that Kim’s side expressed a willingness to meet at the end of this month or early next month.
A police official stated, “It is true that the witness investigation is scheduled for the 23rd,” but added, “Since it has been refused so far, we will have to see if the investigation actually takes place.”
In December last year, the Garosero Research Institute (hereinafter Garoseon) filed a complaint accusing Lee, who was then a member of the Saenuri Party (now People Power Party) Emergency Response Committee, of receiving tens of millions of won from Kim under the pretext of entertainment expenses, charging him with bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
