It happened on the 17th hole (par 3, 174 yards) during the second round of the DB Group Korea Women's Open, a major event on the KLPGA Tour with a total prize of 1.2 billion won, held on the 17th at Rainbow Hills Golf Club in Eumseong, Chungbuk (par 72, 6,763 yards). She hit a 5-iron shot that was swallowed by the hole. Although she made a hole-in-one during a practice round at a training camp three years ago, this was her first in an official tournament.
“I aimed at 158 meters to the pin and hit a 5-iron,” said Song Ga-eun. “Since the pin was tucked in the corner, I thought I would just get the ball on the green and aimed for the center of the green, but the ball rolled along the slope toward the hole. I didn’t see the ball go in, but I heard the cheers of the gallery standing behind the green and realized it was a hole-in-one,” she exclaimed. The prize for the hole-in-one on this hole was an Audi e-tron electric car worth about 100 million won.

Last October, Song Ga-eun won the Hana Financial Group Championship after a fierce battle that went to the third hole of a playoff, defeating ‘US Women’s Open Champion’ Minjee Lee (Australia). The winner’s prize was 270 million won. “I ordered a car to gift my father to celebrate the win, but it hasn’t been delivered yet,” she said with a bright smile. “I will give him the car I received as the hole-in-one prize instead.” On this day, Song Ga-eun recorded five birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey, finishing two strokes under par.
