Shilla Duty Free announced on the 17th that a delegation from a Malaysian travel agency visited the Shilla Duty Free Jeju branch located in Yeondong, Jeju City, exclusively on the previous day (16th).
With Singaporean airline Scoot commencing regular direct flights to Jeju International Airport on the 15th, travelers and local travel agency delegations from Singapore and Malaysia have visited Korea.
The tourists who visited Shilla Duty Free this time were not ordinary tourists but a delegation from Malaysian travel agencies, making it more meaningful as they play a role in developing Korean tourism products and sending local tourists to Korea.
The Malaysian travel agency delegation visiting Shilla Duty Free consisted of a total of 15 people, including marketing managers from local travel agencies Shin Chung Tours, Aviation, and global online travel agency Klook, as well as a reporter from the Malaysian media outlet Girlstyle Malaysia. They toured the Shilla Duty Free Jeju branch for about an hour.
Having arrived at Jeju International Airport on the 15th, they plan to travel for 4 nights and 5 days to major local tourist spots such as Seongsan Ilchulbong, Handam Beach, Gotjawal, and the recreation forest, and are scheduled to depart on the 19th.
Earlier this month, delegations from travel agencies in Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines and Vietnam also visited the Shilla Duty Free Seoul branch located in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, raising expectations that the Korean tourism market will gain momentum.
A Shilla Duty Free official stated, “Following the Philippines and Vietnam, the visit of the Malaysian travel agency delegation to Shilla Duty Free provided a valuable opportunity to experience the shopping environment and tourism products,” adding, “With the reinstatement of the Jeju visa-free entry system and the resumption of regular flights at Jeju International Airport, we expect more foreign tourists to visit Jeju Island, revitalizing the duty-free shops.”
