The Korea Specialty Contractors Association Submits Petition Urging Strong Response to Unfair Practices by Construction Labor Unions
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The Korea Specialty Contractors Association has submitted a petition to the government urging strict law enforcement and a tough response against the illegal activities of the construction labor union.
On the 13th, the Korea Specialty Contractors Association (hereinafter referred to as KSCA) announced that it submitted a large-scale petition involving member companies nationwide to relevant agencies to urge law enforcement and a tough response to the illegal and unfair acts of the construction labor union. The petition was submitted to the Presidential Office, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the National Police Agency, the Fair Trade Commission, and various political parties.
According to the association’s own investigation, the main illegal acts committed by the construction labor union at construction sites include ▲forcing affiliated union members to use machinery and equipment ▲union members blocking construction site entrances and holding assemblies ▲causing civil complaints by using loudspeakers during late night and early morning hours.

KSCA stated, “Although the scale varies, small and medium-sized construction companies suffer financial damages of up to 3 billion KRW per site and construction periods are delayed by up to six months,” adding, “The resulting damages are ultimately passed on to the end consumers, the public.” The association also added, “Approximately 13,000 specialty construction companies nationwide participated in the petition.”
