May Gwangju Export Growth... Driven by Semiconductors and Transportation Equipment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Exports from the Gwangju region have shown an upward trend for three consecutive months due to strong performance in semiconductors and transportation equipment.
According to the Gwangju Customs Office on the 13th, exports from the Gwangju region in May increased by 24.0% year-on-year to $1.618 billion, while imports rose by 21.5% to $830 million.
The trade balance recorded a trade surplus of $788 million.
By item, semiconductors increased by 37.9%, transportation equipment by 29.2%, and machinery by 50.5%, while home appliances decreased by 5.4%.
Imports increased in semiconductors (25.5%) and chemical products (52.0%), whereas home appliances and machinery decreased by 7.0% and 21.3%, respectively.
By region, Southeast Asia, the United States, the EU, and the Middle East saw increases, while China declined.

Exports from the Jeonnam region increased by 53.2% to $5.587 billion, and imports rose by 67.0% to $4.81 billion.
