Starting Today, Hwarang Training Conducted in 5 Regions
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Starting from the 13th, the '2022 Hwarang Exercise' will be conducted. The Hwarang Exercise focuses on establishing an integrated defense posture centered on local government heads and is a training to practice the operation system for integrated defense operations involving the Integrated Defense Council and the Integrated Defense Support Headquarters, as well as civil, government, military, police, and fire services.
On this day, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that the exercise will be conducted in five regions (Busan·Ulsan, Jeju, Jeonbuk, Chungbuk, Gangwon), starting with the Busan·Ulsan area, until October.

Considering the COVID-19 situation, the training will be conducted through live field training exercises (FTX) involving the military, local governments, police, coast guard, and fire services while strictly adhering to government quarantine guidelines. The Hwarang Exercise is designed to guarantee the lives and safety of the people from all-around security threats that may occur during wartime and peacetime. It is conducted annually by dividing the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces, including special self-governing cities and provinces, into 11 regions. The Joint Chiefs of Staff explained that a government integrated evaluation team composed of experts will be operated to assess and improve the integrated defense operation readiness of each agency.
