Gwangju Seo-gu Holds Silver Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 9th that it held the launch ceremony of the ‘Baekse Cheongnyeon Hee喜Nak樂 Senior Citizens' Center Silver Volunteer Group’ along with volunteer training for its members.
About 50 representatives, including chairpersons and general managers from each senior citizens' center, attended the launch ceremony.
The event included a pledge by the volunteer representatives, the awarding of participation certificates to each senior citizens' center, an understanding of the concept of volunteering, and volunteer safety education.
The Silver Volunteer Group was formed to give back the life experience of the elderly to society and contribute to fostering vibrant senior citizens' centers. Approximately 200 elderly people from senior citizens' centers within Seo-gu will participate.
These volunteers will clean areas around the senior citizens' centers and parks once or twice a week and engage in support activities for low-income groups through hand knitting and making handmade scrubbers.
Park Hyun-gil, chairman of Naebang Senior Citizens' Center, who participated in the launch ceremony, said, “While cleaning around the park, I felt proud seeing children playing in the now clean park,” and added, “I will continue to volunteer diligently to make our neighborhood a better place to live.”
