Gwangju Dong-gu Accelerates 'Small Stream Maintenance Project' to Prepare for Summer Rainy Season
Completion Target by the End of This Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) is accelerating the 'Small Stream Maintenance Project' to proactively respond to the summer rainy season and natural disasters such as river flooding.
Dongsan small stream is narrow in width, and repair work on the stone embankment and dredging of the riverbed has not been carried out for some time, resulting in insufficient embankment drainage capacity during heavy summer rains, increasing the likelihood of river flooding and farmland inundation damage.
Dong-gu plans to complete the river maintenance project before the rainy season by investing a budget of 200 million KRW.
The current project progress rate is 30%, with completion targeted by the end of this month.
Additionally, the district plans to promote maintenance projects on local streams step-by-step every year to create an environment where residents near the streams can live more safely and comfortably.
