Even the Cafeteria Embraces 'ESG Management'... Gwangju Bank Introduces Plant-Based Menu
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Bank held an ‘ESG Vegan Day’ at its headquarters on the 7th.
This event was organized to practice a food culture that reduces meat consumption and switches to a vegetarian diet, as greenhouse gases generated from livestock excrement, deforestation for livestock farming, and feed production have been identified as major causes of global warming and abnormal climate.
On this day, the Gwangju Bank cafeteria served a menu composed of plant-based foods such as soy meat bulgogi and handmade dumplings, and continued a campaign to promote low-carbon diets that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70-80% compared to animal-based diets.
Going forward, the last Friday of every month will be designated as ‘ESG Vegan Day,’ and employees will be actively encouraged to participate in carbon reduction activities by providing opportunities to experience various vegetarian menus.
Employees said, “Although I had interest before, I never dared to try vegan meals, but after experiencing it, I gained the courage to take on the challenge. I feel proud that through low-carbon meals, I can protect my health, my family’s health, and ultimately the Earth.”
