President Yoon Completes Ambassador Appointments for Four Major Powers Surrounding the Korean Peninsula, Including China, Japan, and Russia

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 7th, President Yoon Suk-yeol finalized the appointments of ambassadors from the four major powers surrounding the Korean Peninsula: the U.S., China, Japan, and Russia.
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon appointed Yoon Deok-min, former head of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, as ambassador to Japan; Jung Jae-ho, professor of diplomacy at Seoul National University, as ambassador to China; and Jang Ho-jin, distinguished professor at Korea Maritime and Ocean University, as ambassador to Russia. Earlier, President Yoon had appointed Cho Tae-yong, former member of the People Power Party, as ambassador to the U.S.
Additionally, Hwang Jun-guk, former ambassador to the UK, was selected as ambassador to the United Nations.
Former Director Yoon served as a professor at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security for over 20 years and was head of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy during the Park Geun-hye administration. When President Yoon was president-elect, he visited Japan as part of the Korea-Japan policy consultation delegation.
Professor Jung is an expert on Chinese political economy who has studied U.S.-China relations, and Professor Jang is a seasoned diplomat who served as director of the North American Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as presidential diplomatic secretary.
Former Ambassador Hwang is a North Korea nuclear expert who served as head of the North Korean Nuclear Diplomacy Planning Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the Lee Myung-bak administration and as head of the Korean delegation to the Six-Party Talks and head of the Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Headquarters during the Park Geun-hye administration. He also served as campaign chairman during President Yoon’s presidential candidacy.

On the same day, President Yoon appointed Yoo Byung-chae, director of the Sports Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as cultural and sports secretary at the Social Affairs Office of the Presidential Secretariat, and Heo Seong-woo, former deputy director of the transition team’s administrative office, as secretary for public proposals at the Civil Society Office.
