Marriott Withdraws from Russian Market After 25 Years
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Global hotel chain Marriott is withdrawing from the Russian market after 25 years.
According to major foreign media, Marriott announced on the 3rd (local time) that it will cease all hotel operations in Russia. Earlier, Marriott had announced in March, shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, that it would halt new hotel projects, hotel development, and investments within Russia. However, it had continued operating 22 existing hotels.
Marriott stated, "Due to new sanctions from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union (EU), it has become impossible to operate hotels or conduct business in Russia," adding, "We have decided to suspend all Marriott operations in Russia."
