[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] In the June 1 local election for Damyang County Governor, Democratic Party candidate Lee Byeongno secured victory with 56.73% of the vote.
Immediately after confirming his election, Lee Byeongno, the elected Damyang County Governor, issued a statement saying, "I thank the residents who chose me despite my shortcomings and who never withheld their support and encouragement until the end," and added, "I will keep my promise to build a ‘New Damyang’ where all 50,000 residents are happy."
Lee stated, "With a humble heart, I will return to my original intention, carefully observe every corner of Damyang, communicate, and restore a ‘local community’ where all 50,000 residents can live happily together."
He especially emphasized, "I will quickly heal the deepened conflicts and divisions in the local community during the election period, and I will put everything aside and demonstrate leadership in communication and harmony so that all residents can unite and integrate."

He continued, "Without dividing into ‘my side’ or ‘your side,’ I will focus solely on making Damyang a better place to live," and added, "Through resident-first policies and resident-centered administration, I will surely achieve another ‘New Millennium Damyang’ that will be responsible for Korea’s future millennium."
