COVID-19 15,797 New Cases Confirmed... Over 10,000 Cases for Two Consecutive Days

The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on the 1st, there were 15,797 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 18,119,415. The number of new cases is 1,394 fewer than the previous day (17,191 cases).
It is the first time in 18 weeks since January 26 (13,004 cases) that the daily number of confirmed cases has dropped to the 10,000 range based on Wednesday's report.
Compared to a week ago on the 25th of last month (23,945 cases), it is 8,148 fewer, and compared to two weeks ago on the 18th of last month (31,342 cases), it has decreased to about half.
From the 26th of last month for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 18,808 → 16,581 → 14,398 → 12,653 → 6,139 → 17,191 → 15,797, with an average daily number of 14,510 cases.
Among the new confirmed cases, 44 were imported from overseas, and the remaining 15,753 were locally transmitted cases.
The number of deaths among COVID-19 confirmed cases was 21, an increase of 12 from the previous day (9). The number of deaths had recorded single digits for two consecutive days on the 30th and 31st of last month but has rebounded.
By age group, 10 deaths (47.6%) were aged 80 or older, 7 were in their 70s, 3 in their 60s, and 1 in their 50s.
The cumulative number of deaths is 24,197, and the cumulative fatality rate of COVID-19 is 0.13%.
The number of critically ill patients is 188, an increase of 8 from the previous day (180). The number has remained in the 100s for five consecutive days since the 28th of last month (196).
The number of critically ill patients sharply increased after the Omicron outbreak earlier this year, peaking at 1,315 on March 31, and has been declining since.

This measure is due to the significant decrease in confirmed cases as the outbreak declines and the establishment of home treatment and local clinic testing and treatment systems.
