Incheon Airport Corporation Signs Incentive Agreement to Resume Public Transportation Operations in Regional Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 31st that it has signed the ‘Incheon Airport Local Bus Operation Agreement’ with bus operators such as Gangwon Express and others that operate buses from Incheon Airport to local areas to resume public transportation services.
Previously, the corporation prepared measures to promote the resumption of local route bus operations through continuous discussions with government ministries, local governments, and bus operators to resume bus services and enhance passenger convenience in anticipation of the recovery in air travel demand. Through this agreement, each bus operator will partially resume airport bus services on a total of 13 local hub routes, including Busan, Gwangju, and Daejeon, which had been temporarily suspended due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, starting in June. The corporation will provide special support worth a total of 1 billion KRW over three months for these routes.
With the resumption of major local airport bus services from June, the corporation expects a significant improvement in airport access transportation convenience for local passengers, which had been relatively poor compared to the metropolitan area since COVID-19. Additionally, by securing transportation to major local hubs before the peak season, it is anticipated that this will contribute to the increase in overseas travel demand during this year’s peak season and enable a proactive response to demand recovery.
