Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Hold the 3rd Architectural Policy Idea Contest Starting from the 2nd of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 30th that it will hold the "3rd Architectural Policy Idea Contest" from July 2 to August 31 to establish architectural policies that the public can empathize with and experience.
The Architectural Policy Idea Contest has been held annually since 2020 to proactively discover architectural policy demands that the public can empathize with and experience, aiming to enhance the quality of architectural spaces and develop the architectural field in Korea.
This contest invites innovative ideas that can be reflected in actual architectural policies under the theme of envisioning the future of Korea's architecture and urban environment. Anyone nationwide can participate, and youth and adolescents will be given preferential treatment during the evaluation process. Participants can freely propose ideas by choosing one of three formats: video, poster, or essay. Submitted ideas will be evaluated by a panel of experts related to architectural policy based on relevance to the theme, effectiveness, and creativity. Regardless of submission format, a total of eight outstanding ideas will be selected, including one grand prize, one excellence award, one merit award, and five encouragement awards, with awards to be presented in September.
In the first contest, ideas proposed by the public such as public architecture innovation, quality improvement of small-scale buildings, and creation of cultural spaces through the maintenance of vacant and neglected buildings were established as major action tasks in the "3rd Basic Architectural Policy Plan," which outlines the national architectural policy direction for the next five years.
Excellent ideas proposed through the second contest held last year were also reflected in various policy-making processes. Based on the grand prize proposal to improve urban landscapes, the criteria for designated scenic areas were specified, and a regulation to establish a landscape support center was newly introduced in the amended "Landscape Act." Following the excellence award proposal, the construction of an integrated architectural service industry information system that provides building-related data such as business information in one place will also begin this year.
