Early Voting Rate for Local Elections at 6 PM Reaches 20.52%... Highest Ever Recorded

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] On the second day of early voting for the 8th nationwide local elections, the turnout rate as of 6 p.m. on the 28th was recorded at 20.52%.
The National Election Commission announced that as of 6 p.m. that day, out of a total of 44,303,449 eligible voters, 9,093,239 had cast their votes. Voting began simultaneously at polling stations nationwide at 6 a.m. that day.
Although voting for COVID-19 confirmed patients remained from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the turnout rate had already surpassed the 20.1% recorded in the 7th local elections four years ago. This is the highest turnout rate ever for local elections.

The region with the highest turnout rate so far is Jeonnam (30.95%). It was followed by Gangwon (25.12%), Jeonbuk (24.33%), Gyeongbuk (23.12%), and Sejong (22.27%). The lowest turnout was recorded in Daegu at 14.74%, followed by Gwangju (17.22%), Busan (18.53%), Gyeonggi (18.96%), and Ulsan (19.57%). The turnout rates in the metropolitan area were 21.08% in Seoul and 20.0% in Incheon.
