Kia Electric Vehicle EV6 Receives Top Safety Rating in Europe
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia announced on the 27th that its dedicated electric vehicle EV6 received the highest five-star rating in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). Following Hyundai Motor's Ioniq 5, which also received five stars in the same test last year, both sibling cars using the same dedicated electric vehicle platform have proven their safety.
The Euro NCAP test is a European new car assessment program that started in 1997, verifying and publishing safety results for cars sold in Europe. In this evaluation, the EV6 achieved the highest rating in the overall assessment of four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection, and safety assist systems.
Euro NCAP evaluated that the EV6 maintained a stable passenger compartment during the frontal collision test and effectively protected the knees and femurs of occupants. In the side barrier test, it also protected key body parts of occupants well, and in the front seat and head restraint tests, it was deemed to have good body protection functions in rear-end collisions. In the safety assist system test, functions such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist were noted for effectively detecting surrounding vehicles and stopping or avoiding collisions.

The EV6 is based on Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, with a reinforced body structure by increasing the use of ultra-high-strength steel. The company explained that the front is designed with a collision load distribution structure to minimize deformation of the passenger compartment in external impacts. The area housing the battery underneath is reinforced with aluminum reinforcements and strengthened hot-stamped components. Additionally, eight airbags, including front seat center side airbags, were installed to reduce head injuries caused by secondary collisions between occupants during side impacts.
