View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Gu Ja-yeol, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, met with Lee Chang-yang, the new Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, at the Trade Tower in Samseong-dong on the 27th to discuss trade, commerce, and supply chain issues.
Chairman Gu said, “Since the new Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy has experience in industry, government, and academia, I expect him to carefully address the pending tasks for trade and industrial development,” offering his congratulations on the appointment and adding, “The new government aims for a ‘dynamic economy led by the private sector and supported by the government,’ which gives me great confidence.”
He continued, “The association and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy are the best partners representing the public and private sectors in trade, commerce, and supply chain fields,” emphasizing that both organizations have continuously worked together to respond to urgent issues such as logistics difficulties after the pandemic, the Ukraine crisis, and supply chain challenges.
Regarding follow-up measures after the Korea-US summit and resolving supply chain problems, he stated, “When events such as the ‘Korea-US Supply Chain and Industry Dialogue’ established following this summit are held, the association will fully support as the foremost communication channel for the private sector in trade, commerce, and supply chains,” adding, “We will strive to represent the interests of our export companies through domestic agenda development, key issue analysis, and overseas outreach activities.”
He also promised active cooperation in promoting government tasks related to the trade industry, including responding to the spread of digital trade, resolving logistics difficulties, and exporting service industries.

In response, Minister Lee said, “In line with rapidly changing domestic and international environments, I hope to establish new visions and goals for trade and to promote trade policies in close cooperation with the association,” adding, “I will communicate closely with the industrial sector and listen to voices from the field to reflect them in government policies.”
